About me
Jillian Powers is a second-grade teacher in Flowing Wells Unified School District in Tucson. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with an emphasis in social studies from Northern Arizona University and her master’s in curriculum and instruction from Western Governors University. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher and recently maintained her certification. While working with students in her classroom is her happy place, Jillian also has a passion for being a teacher leader. As a leader in her district, Jillian works as an instructional coach and mentor for teachers in years 1-3. She is also a Candidate Support Provider for teachers pursuing National Board Certification in conjunction with the Arizona K-12 Center. Jillian is most proud of her work bringing global awareness to the classroom through her participation as a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar in Morocco (2019) and as a member of Teachers Collaborating Across Borders (2021). Additionally, Jillian is a teacher leader with the Tucson Regional Educator Collaborative (TREC), using Onward by Elena Aguilar to help cultivate resilience in educators. She is a recent recipient of the Raytheon Leaders In Education award and is excited to serve as a member of the advisory board for Tucson Values Teachers. Outside of school, Jillian can be found spending time with her family, reading.
